Lets get the facts on the table, I smoke menthol cigarettes and I think they are great. I smoked corks for some time until I realised I didnt really like the smell, and they left my tiny flat feeling stuffy. So I switched to menthols. Now the flat is manageable, and a small air conditioner filters away enough so most of my friends have not stopped complaining. I like the taste and the smell and the look of white filter menthols, and I'm not about to quit.
Yet the powers that be have already signed away the rights to produce flavoured cigs in the name of 'health', and to stop kids from starting. I personally think the 'health' aspect is overblown (menthols seem to clear out my lungs better than regular cigs), and there is no evidence to suggest mint/menthol is harmful in any way. Secondly of course, kids will smoke, no matter what flavour or what price, and around my home town, they start pretty early, so I dont think 'menthol' has much to do with it.
So in the end, we must smoke and enjoy menthols while we can, be while the powers say so. It means I must buy strong breath mints if I want to enjoy the menthol taste in years to come. The white filters of the UK will migrate to ultra mild varieties like in the USA, so the all-whites will never die.
Seems a waste, but enjoy them while we can.

I don't smoke any more but when I was I switched between reg and menthol. tried Newports once. They were the nastiest, harshest menthol I ever smoked. It took me over a month to get through that pack. My hypothesis is that the folks who like seeing models smoke them in videos aren't smokers themselves...otherwise they would know better.

I find newports take more getting used to, but for some reason, the unique taste makes them more more-ish than other menthols, and the Newport 120s look amazing. I would say Newports are the Marlboro lights of the menthol world if it wasnt for the acquired taste. Salems are much lighter and are a much cooler flavour. I think Marlboro menthols are very plain and boring and not so tasty. In the UK, I smoke Richmonds. Having tried out the whole range of other brands, its the best I found, but not as smooth as American brands we cant get much over here, and they have the euro sponge filter over the american water-proof filter, so the hold and inhale is very different.

I'm not a fan of menthol, but they're much easier to smoke when I'm sick. I keep a pack of Marlboro menthol 100's in the freezer for that very reason.

I’ve been a menthol smoker pretty much from the get-go...I liked the feeling of smoking as I was first getting started, but didn’t taste anything. Then I tried my first menthol, a Salem, and instantly knew I would be a menthol smoker from then on. I have brand hopped a lot over the years, but always a menthol flavor. Pall Mall greens are my current favorite.
