Ladies Smoking has come a long way since the 1940s. Back in those days, Women were encouraged to smoke during the war when food was scarce, and to keep their weight down. Smoking was very cheap and stylish, and by the end of the 1940s, it is estimated that almost 50% of the UK and American population smoked.
The cigarette was still something new to women, who just one generation ago women had been discouraged to smoke. Fashion was important, and although holders where now a thing of the past, ladies were still expected to hold their cigarettes with aplomb and dignity, elegance and grace.
