Take some time to read the ad copy and think about the picture. What do you see? The couch and surroundings clearly say "mature, home owner", but the girl in the picture is not dressed like she would own such furniture...and don't responsible people have to work in the afternoon? What kind of person has the afternoon off to sit around and listen to music and smoke cigarettes? When turning pages in a mag you wouldn't really consciously think about these things. Of course what they are showing us is a girl that has got home after school and is having a cigarette in her own home. The headphones say a couple of things...1)she isn't hanging out with her friends. 2) she is either not worried about getting caught smoking at home because her parents aren't there or they let her smoke. I think ultimately what is ad is trying to say to the reader is "hey...you know those cigs your mom smokes? They are a great way to relax after school just the way they relax your mom when she gets home from work." One of my all time favorite ads. Period. Attachments:

A great find. Those were the days. Perhaps they dont make these anymore?, I'll look out for them next time. This brand looks so elegant. As for the girls age I'd say between 18 and 23. Do you know which magazine this was from?

They Still make these in the states. The packages look different now. The Brit version of this brand usually has cork filters I think. The first time I saw this ad was in 1981 in a People Magazine.

Those bottom two are some of my faves as well. Again, rare that you see the girl taking a drag on a cigarette in an American ad. Also love the imagery of the naked girl looking all wrecked and wrapped in a bed sheet lit by the morning sun.

That last ad has to be everybody's favorite. Here is a better quality version:

I have seen a crop of the image directly above so many times I thought it was a fake or a fan creation. I think it turned up on Midnight Autoparts as a genuine photo. You learn something new everyday.
I prefer the middle ad of the three above, its very rare to see a lady inhale, but with eyes closed is even rarer still.
